Items I have fished out my child's mouth in the last two days include:
- Mulch from outside
- Fringe from an area rug
- Dog hair
- The dog's toy
- A dirty coaster
- Dead bug
- Cord to the vaccuum (!)
But according to a 2009 NY Times article, ingesting lots of bacterias can help stregnthen your immune system. Dr. Joel V. Weinstock, the director of gastroenterology and hepatology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston was quoted as saying:
“Children raised in an ultraclean environment,” he added, “are not being exposed to organisms that help them develop appropriate immune regulatory circuits.”
Well. It looks like there is one less thing for me to worry about.
Aside from all that, looks like he's getting some extra protein, too.
ReplyDeleteI found mini-K eating some dry dog food the other day. She was extremely perturbed when I fished it out of her mouth. Fortunately the dog gobbled it up before she could get it back in her mouth.
Now, what say you about the dog's penchant for cleaning out the cat's litter box....?
